Dyeing
Kyo-Yuzen Workshop Studio

Kyo-Yuzen dyeing was started in the Genroku era (late 17th century) by a man called Yuzensai Miyazaki who painted on fans. Though there are many different kinds of Kyo-Yuzen dyeing, there are two main categories: hand-painted Yuzen and stencil Yuzen. Here at Marumasu Nishimuraya, you can experience one kind of stencil Yuzen, which is called “Surikomi Yuzen”.

This traditional Kyoto technique has been passed down for 350 years already. Come and experience it for yourself.

There are many countries in the world that use chopsticks, but it seems to be a Japanese custom that people have their own set of chopsticks to eat with. Please come and make your own chopsticks.
