Marumasu Nishimuraya offers workshops where you can experience Kyo-Yuzen, set up by our traditional craftsmen. Customers can immerse themselves in Kyoto’s tradition and the world of dyeing, and have a one of kind experience that can only be found here.
In addition to school trips and tour groups, we also welcome other groups like company trips. Marumasu Nishimuraya is located in the center of Kyoto and is easily accessible by public transport, so it is easy to include other sightseeing spots in your plan. Please feel free to pay a visit to Marumasu Nishimuraya during your stay in Kyoto.
Our staff will be more than happy to help you and provide you with detailed explanations, so even if it’s your first time, you have nothing to worry about.
School Trips and Tour Groups
At our store
You can experience Kyo-Yuzen at a workshop in a traditional Kyoto townhouse.
Up to 250 people can experience at the same time.
The workshop is located in a traditional Kyo-machiya (Kyoto townhouse). Up to 250 people can do the experience at the same time.

The fee is same for one big group or smaller groups (even if it’s only one person)
Starting time is between 8:30 and 20:00 for big groups (20 people or more), and between 9:00 and 17:00 for smaller groups. The duration of the workshop is about 60-90 minutes.
Items can be taken home the same day.
(For the fan and the coin purse, it is necessary to assemble them after dyeing, so these items will be sent one or two months later).
In the unlikely event that your item is damaged during assembly or transportation, a replacement will be sent.
On-Site Workshop (Kyo-Yuzen Beginner’s Course)
For big groups (20 people or more), we can provide an on-site workshop at the hotel or inn. We can also provide an on-site workshop at schools or another location of your choice, so please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

The maximum number of people is 20 or more.
The number of participants should be at least 20 people (or more if the workshop will be divided in two sessions).
The on-site workshop is provided within Kyoto City limits. (Please contact us if you would like to have the workshop outside of Kyoto City or outside the prefecture).
