
Kyo-Yuzen Workshop "Marumasu-Nishimuraya"
Kyo-Yuzen is one of techniques kimono (traditional cloth in Japan). In the method, colourful desings such as seasonal birds, plants and landscapes are painted directly on the fabric.Because of their exquisite beauty, Yuzen kimono have remained popular from the end of the 17th century.
As a studio for Kyo-Yuzen art, Marumasu-Nishimuraya has been following the techniques of Kyo-Yuzen since its inception more than 100 years ago. In addition to experiencing traditional crafts, our studio is a place to learn about Kyoto’s culture and history at a Machiya (traditional wooden townhouse in Kyoto).
